News: Kid Icarus Delayed, Anime in Development

Kid Icarus' return is going to take a little bit longer as it's pushed back until 2012.

A revival of the Kid Icarus franchise was announced alongside the unveiling of the Nintendo 3DS during E3 2010 and while fans have waited patiently for years for a new Kid Icarus to comes out it seems they'll have to wait a little bit longer for Uprising.

Kid Icarus Uprising was originally meant to be released this year in Japan but at today's 3DS conference Nintendo president Satoru Iwata confirmed that they game wouldn't be released until next year and apologised for the delay. By way of explanation he said that some more time is required for development according to Andriasang. Since last week's unveiling of a circle pad add-on for the Nintendo 3DS in Famitsu magazine many people have speculated it would be used for Kid Icarus Uprising, but of course this is all just speculation at present.

It wasn't all bad news for Kid Icarus fans however as Mr. Iwata confirmed that Nintendo has teamed up with animation studios Production I.G, Studio 4C and Shaft, who between them have worked on Tekkon Kinkreet, Ghost in the Shell and FLCL, to create a series of Kid Icarus shorts that will be made available for the 3DS Nintendo Video service around the world. Expect more details soon.
