If you thought EA would be top of our news table for long, you were wrong as Konami launch a swift counter-attack with Wii PES 2009 details.

Konami has officially confirmed a sequel to the popular Wii version of the highly acclaimed Pro Evolution Soccer series, which will launch in Spring 2009.

Having seen PES 2008 on Wii redefine how football games could be done, Konami have stated that they hope to further advance their 2008 innovations in PES 2009. Building on the unique control system of its predecessor, PES 2009 will expand on the novel concept of gamers controlling both players with the ball and those around them. PES 2009 will also introduce different control methods, in a similar vein to FIFA '09 (something many gamers loved and requested from PES 2008.)

Konami have also mentioned that they are reworking the defensive aspects of the game (possibly the only weakness in the original version), with more control of defenders and more ways to close down attackers. As with all yearly updates, new AI routines have also been implemented and will test even the most hardened PES player.
