News: Level 5 Introduce Professor Layton

Level 5 Announce Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village for the DS, click-me-do!

Famous for their RPG work on Dragon Quest and Rogue Galaxy amongst others, Level 5 present for your gaming pleasure their first DS title Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village.

The game looks to combine a fantasy setting with a mixture of Brain Training-esque puzzles. Partnered with a young assistant called Luke, the professor appears to solve puzzles all the while wondering around the eponymous Village. Although it has yet to be fully confirmed, a release of 2007 is expected. Which would make sense as (a) the game has only just been announced and (b) the holiday season is looming.

Visiting the official site reveals an extremely franco-centric style of art which recalls the film Belleville Rendezvous or other such brown-oriented cartoons. Check it out, it's quite different from the normal style of Japanese games, although with Franco-Japanese crossovers such as Ulysses 31 and Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors being the norm during the 80s, it is nice to see that Eastern developers can be heavily influenced by European style for a change.
