On October 11th Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 will be released. To tie into this the little green dinosaur that is almost been a pet to Mario over the years comes under the spot light.

Below is his complete history from when he first appeared to today, and boy has he been around!

1991, and the launch of Mario's classic 2D platform fest, Super Mario World. A generation of gamers discovered that early in the second level, bashing a particular block would reveal a green-and-white egg. It hatched to reveal a friendly dinosaur - and Yoshi's stellar Nintendo career was born.

During the next nine years, the saucer-eyed dino has graduated from Mario's near-silent sidekick in that seminal Super NES game, to an all- singing, all-whistling Nintendo star in his own right. And this Friday, he returns in Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 for Game Boy Advance, a beautifully-designed platformer with the betongued one at his bouncy, brilliant best.

Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 tasks the cute dinosaur with reuniting the baby Mario with his lost brother across over 50 action-packed stages - revealing that Mario and his enemy- gobbling, egg-laying buddy first crossed paths long before Super Mario World.
