Lunar Genesis

News: Lunar DS officially named as... Lunar DS

Ubisoft has announced the results of its online poll to name the game.

Ubisoft has announced the results of their online poll to officially name the upcoming DS RPG, previously referred to as Lunar: Genesis. Ladies and Gentlemen, its official, we have Lunar: Dragon Song. Which is Lunar DS for short (ah, now you see the cleverness.)

Additionally, Ubisoft released the following details on the game:

  • Dragon Song will be a prequel taking place 1,000 years prior to Lunar: The Silver Star and will feature three new protagonists: Jian, Lucia and Gabriel.
  • Card battle system: players will be able to collect "battle cards", which have the capability of increasing magic, attack and skills.
  • A ton of new items and weapons, which can be traded between players through the DS wireless connection.
  • Developed by the original creators of the Lunar series.

Here is the official line on the game, lifted straight off the website:

At the dawn of time, when the legends of dragons were first born, an age of darkness descended on the world of LUNAR. Join the untried hero Jian and his friends in their quest to save LUNAR from powerful forces of evil.

Battle through an original adventure as three new heroes – Jian, Lucia, and Gabriel – to convert the Forces of Darkness into Beings of Light. Collect Battle Cards to strengthen the skills, spells and battle attacks of your entire team. Use your wireless connection to share rare and unique items with friends.

It looks like long-suffering Lunar fans may have cause to rejoice...particularly if the original team is indeed assembled to do their series justice. Will this be the DS' first great RPG?

The game is currently slated for a July release in the US, which is not far off at all. However, oddly enough, the game has an August 25th release date in Japan...and its fairly unlikely the game would see Western shores first. A Western delay of the release date could be in the making..stay tuned for more details as they break.
