News: Mario Kart 7 Knocked Off the Top in Japan

It's otherwise business as usual in Nintendomination-land...

It's Wednesday afternoon, thus it must be time for the weekly Japanese Media Create charts. The narrative was about the same as it has been for a while now: 3DS maintains a tight grip on the software chart, while the system is pretty much the only thing selling very sell in the hardware chart.

However, Mario Kart 7 was kept off the top of the chart for the first time in a few weeks by a new Super Robot Wars on PSP. Other notable new releases included Tecmo and Nintendo's Spirit Camera, which had a quiet opening week; and the 3DS debut of Namco Bandai's Ace Combat series, which seems to be finding its feet on a Nintendo platform.

The software chart for the week of January 9th to 15th is below.

After the Christmas and New Years boosts, it's a tad depressing to see hardware sales come back down to Earth. Having said that, 3DS' advantage over everything else remains just as apparent, while Vita storms past the 500,000 landmark.
