News: Mario Kart Arcade Announced

Nintendo and Namco have teamed up to release an arcade version of Mario Kart for the Triforce arcade board in Japan.

The latest All-Nippon Amusment Machine Operator's Union (the arcade version of E3) has just finished, and during the show there was a big announcement for Mario Kart fans.

Mario Kart Arcade GP will allow for four arcade units to link together to play against each other in the typically zany Mario Kart way. The game will feature the usual weapons such as Banana Peals and Koopa Shells, and also characters such as Mario and Yoshi.

While no complete character list has been announced it has been revealed that Namco will be including Pac-Man. He will be able to race against Mario and co over 24 tracks in six Mario themed worlds.

The unit will allow players to use magnetic strips to transfer data, similar to F-Zero AX. A unique feature of this game will allow players to take pictures of their face and use them as position markers, so players can know who is racing. Apparently goofy-eyes and such can be added on, like on the Game Boy Camera.

While a fall announcement has been announced for Japan, and a US release seems likely, it is very unlikely there will be an European release. Scroll down to click screens of the machine in action!
