News: Mario & Sonic Hit 5m In Three Months!

Sega report stellar sales for their chart-topping Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games...

Today, Sega have released news that their history-making game, which saw icons Mario and Sonic together in the same title for the first time, has sold five million copies worldwide in just over three months.

The game, which is out on both the Wii and DS, was developed by Sega with additional creative input from Nintendo. Much-loved characters from both the Mario and Sonic worlds compete in Olympic-style minigames, and has proved a hit the world over.

Since its launch last November in the US, the title was one of the top-ten best-sellers across all platforms in the critical holiday sales month of December. Launching in Europe just days later, the title sat proudly atop the sales charts across the continent and became the best-ever performing Wii game over a seven-day period during the week ended December 11, 2007. In January, Mario & Sonic was the best-selling video game in England across all formats.

Can the DS version do the same? For those who haven't yet played the newly-launched handheld edition, we scored it 9/10 in our recent review.
