Mario Sports Mix was announced at E3 2010 but little has been discussed since. However some important news emerged today - it will support online multiplayer!

While Mario Sports Mix isn't due until next year in America and Europe it is being released at the end of the month in Japan and because of this a new official website has been launched.

The website confirms that there will be four different sports: hockey, basketball, dodge ball and volleyball. As to be expected the usual bunch of Mario characters will be participating including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad, Yoshi, Wario, Waluigi, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. The character page has seven blank boxes as well, which suggests that others will be unlockable.

The most surprising piece of information to be found on the website is the fact that online multiplayer will be supported. Two Wiis, each with up to two players, will be able to connect online for matches either against friends or against random players.

Expect more news and impressions of Mario Sports Mix as the Japanese release gets closer.
