News: Mario To Kick Off The Revolution?

The plumber tasked to take on one of his most important jobs ever... leading a Revolution, again.

Our colleagues at 1up.com are reporting that in an interview with German news source Spiegal Online, Mario creator (and general all-around Nintendo saviour) Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that the Revolution's Mario game is under deep development. Nintendo fans will remember that with the Gamecube, as much as we love the guy, Mario sibling Luigi was not quite ready to carry the mantle of killer-app launch title. Drawing from comments made by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata during TGS, he strongly intimated that Mario would provide a most welcome force for the crucial Revolution launch. It is clear then that the pressure is on the humble man with the genius' knack for creating phenomenally fun new game experiences to deliver yet again and lead an industry by example.

As for what form Mario's new adventure will take is anybody's guess. Nintendo (including Miyamoto) has long hinted at a Mario 128, only to have the game never materialize for a needy Gamecube. With assets and ideas now carried over to the new console, and empowered with its fantastically different controller, we can only imagine what the game will ultimately be like. No doubt, R-E will be keeping eyes and ears wide open for any further news on The Great One.
