It ain't Metroid Prime 3 or Hunters, but you could be playing as Samus online sooner than you think...

A rather nifty mod for Halo CE is being made by a small fan-based team, hoping to fully convert Halo CE in to a custom-made Metroid online game. Featuring Metroids, classic maps and the unique morphball feature, if the mod can be pulled off it will be quite a feat.

The Metroid Online Map Team's site (metroid.4lifenet.net) has a full list of what the finished mod will offer, including:

• Samus Aran biped (replacing Master Chief)
• Morphball (with bombs and boost)
• Fully 3D HUD (animated as well)
• Samus's Arm Cannon (Power, Ice, Wave, Plasma Beams and Missiles)
• Double Jump (tentative, but should be available)
• Conversions of Super Metroid and Metroid Prime (including Echoes) maps
• Custom Maps based off the Metroid Universe

The site has some screenshots and a bit of footage on it too. Should keep those who own the game busy until the Revolution's online-enabled Metroid Prime 3!
