Metroid Dread

News: Metroid Dread Really Is Dead

...Really.

Oh Nintendo, why do you tease? Fans of the Metroid series have been anticipating a new installment in the series since its accidental revelation in 2005, a supposed 2D Metroid game for the DS called Metroid Dread. Ever since, the game has been cancelled, spoken of and rumoured to be still in development, but we've had no solid info since that E3.

Retro Studios slipped a sly wink towards fans into Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, a secret message that claimed Metroid project 'Dread' was nearing the final stages of completion, which many people took to believe that Retro were still developing the game.

Now, popping our balloon like a vengeance-seeking bee wielding a needle, Nintendo have confirmed to CVG that a 2D Metroid game is not currently in development. Daaaamn.

Stay tuned for the latest on any sneaky Nintendo-related activity.
