News: Metroid Prime Trilogy Heading To Wii

One of the finest trilogies in video game history is getting a bundle...

Nintendo today announced that the prestigous Metroid Prime trilogy will be seeing a Wii re-release later this year. Metroid Prime Trilogy will see the Gamecube titles Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes; and Wii's 2007 blockbuster Metroid Prime 3: Corruption release crammed together on one single Wii disc.

According to Kotaku, Trilogy is so much more than a rehash of old games. The package has the original two games touched up to 16:9 widescreen, faster door-loading times and fully-armed with bloom lighting. Then there is of course the fantastic IR pointer controls already used so sublimely in Corruption. Gamers will also have full access to all three titles on a seamless 'hub' that acts as the main menu; which also features the four-man multiplayer mode from Echoes. Finally, the unlockables system seen in Corruption which allowed players to view special concept art and listen to soundtracks has been extended to cover all three titles.

So far, the title has only been confirmed for a release in the US on August 24th for a steal-price of $49.99. It is expected to be the chief reason Nintendo hasn't released the New Play Control versions of the two Gamecube titles. With those games also failing to appear on PAL release lists, the situation looks good for European and Australian gamers looking to get in on the Trilogy action.

What do you make of the package? Another unwanted re-release or baragin of the century?
