News: Midway Sells Shares

Midway Games has announced the sale of stocks.

Midway Games, the people responsible (read: "to blame for") the Mortal Kombat series of fighting games has today announced the sale of stock totalling around 11,350,000 shares. With this sale, the company expects to raise around 40 million after expenses. The company intends to re-invest the capital earned into development of more games.

Shares will most likely sell at about $8 each -which is 4 sterling. Quite a lot really, for one of video games most infamous developers. Originally when the Mortal Kombat series was first released, Midway were heavily criticised by everyone with far too much time on their hands for being too violent and bloody. Midway initially received a great deal of media attention for their gory games, which certainly boosted sales rather than crushing them.

Now as time has gone on, the general public are less sensitive to video game violence than they once were, and now gamers seek more and more expressive media than two monstrous bipeds beating seven shades of purple out of each other to the accompaniment of lashings of bright red blood. Of course, the fact that recent Mortal Kombat games have erred on the wrong side of "rubbish" hasn't helped. Does no-one on Wall Street feel that the price they're asking is a little too high?
