News: MindQuiz Offends Players

A Brain-Training-like game published by Ubisoft has been pulled from distribution after the game was found to insult the player in an offensive way..

The DS, PSP and PC game MindQuiz, developed by Sega and published by Ubisoft, has been halted from distribution after discovery of an offensive word.

When someone performs very poorly at the game, the game gives you a rating in a manner derogatory to the disabled. When questioned about the offensive word in the game, a Ubisoft spokesperson replied:

"As soon as we were made aware of the issue we stopped distribution of the product and are now working with retailers to pull the game off the market. The game was developed in Japan, and we unfortunately did not pick up on the offending word in our quality assurance. We are currently working with the developer to find a way to rectify the issue."

Ubisoft have also apologised to all those who were offended by the game.

The problem was revealed to the BBC by a Belfast woman by the name of Nicola. Nicola told the BBC that she had been playing the game while she was in hospital to give birth to her son. Nicola had lost her other son, Logan, just before Christmas. Logan suffered from cerebral palsy and was severely brain damaged, and passed away at the age of three after contracting pneumonia. Nicola found it "absolutely appalling that a word like this should be used to describe someone who has not achieved very well. My daddy also has cerebral palsy and he is in his mid-50s and this is a word that really offends my dad."
