French knighthoods in the Order of Arts and Letters are to be awarded to game creators for the first time in Paris next week. Details inside.
Around two hundred people are knighted from the world of Art (and indeed, video games can included in this category) every year in France. Unlike British knighthoods, the recipiants are not allowed to add a "Sir" to their names, but it is still an extremely high honour.
Miyamoto - the creator of many famous of Nintendo franchises, Ancel - creator of Rayman and the delightful but commercially overlooked Beyond Good and Evil, and Raynal - best-known for creating Alone In The Dark, will all recieve awards presented by the French Minister of Culture Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres next Monday.
Congratulations to all three of them, and thankyou to R-E reader Sloppy for the heads up!
(Now give us a Beyond Good and Evil sequel!)
