News: Miyamoto Discusses 3DS, Zelda and More!

Shigeru Miyamoto has recently commented on the Wii's competition from Sony and Microsoft, the 3DS and the status of Skyward Sword.

Nintendo's iconic designer Shigeru Miyamoto recently sat down and chatted to Pocket Lint about a whole series of different topics and looks set to give all his energy to 2011.

When he was asked about whether or not he thinks people will grow out of the Wii and move onto Sony and Microsoft's motion control inputs he argues that he does not and adds, "of course, I am happy that motion is fashionable now. But when we make games, we are not trying to produce trendy products". He then states that he thinks that their rivals need to find out what new aspects they have to offer to gamers.

Fans eagerly awaiting The Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword will be pleased to hear that it is about fifty percent complete. According to Shigeru Miyamoto's comments they are focusing on the gameplay mechanics at the moment to ensure it plays well.

"What we are focused on is creating gameplay mechanics so the gameplay experience feels very dense. In fact, the overall experience is going to feel more dense. We hope that people will want to go back and replay the game once they finish it".

After commenting on the current stability of Nintendo's software Mr. Miyamoto is asked about Nintendo's upcoming 3DS and how he feels about the console. "What's really exciting is our new ability to have a sense of depth. Once you have the true 3D visual it becomes very clear where all the objects are on that space, so jumping on objects becomes easier".

No Shigeru Miyamoto interview is complete without an insightful bit of information about his personal life and this one was no different. As a child Miyamoto had a stereoscopic movie viewer and found it fascinating and hopes that children will feel the same sense of wonder when they use the 3DS. Additionally the gaming world will be delighted to know that he really does enjoy his job, so much so that he only goes on holiday for his family's sake.

The full interview can be read over at Pocket Lint.
