Shigeru Miyamoto promises Super Mario on the 3DS will be "completely original" and mix elements of Super Mario Galaxy and Mario 64.
Many 3DS owners are eagerly awaiting the release of several big titles due out later this year and after confirming Super Mario will be one of them it has no doubt made its way onto gamers "must buy" lists. Shigeru Miyamoto has told EDGE that the title will be a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on the N64, hinting at what the game will be like.
The title will be playable at this year's E3, which should allow for audiences to get a better understanding of what Mr. Miyamoto means according to the man himself. He also boldly states that Super Mario on the 3DS will be "completely original, and coming this year." This is certainly bound to please fans of the franchise.
The title is due to utilise the 3DS's ability to provide 3D gameplay. Speaking to the magazine he stated: "For example, the floors floating in space: in 2D it's difficult to judge the distance, but in 3D it's really easy."
When the title was briefly shown at the Game Developers Conference last month many people noted that the logo had a tail attached to it. Shigeru Miyamoto commented on the tail and seemingly suggested it is what most people think - the tanuki/raccoon suit from Super Mario Bros. 3 will be making a return. "The tail you mentioned on the logo it's what you think it is. You probably know what's going to happen using that character."
Expect more details in the lead up to E3 and a deluge of new information during the event.
