News: Monkey Ball Adventure Screens & Info

The first shots and detailed game information of the super simians in their brand new title are just one click away!

First revealed earlier this week to be coming to the PSP and PS2, the Cube version was quickly confirmed by Nintendo in their Q2 release list. And now we've got the first shots and info from Sega!

Described as a story-driven adventure containing a mix of platforming and puzzles, Super Monkey Ball Adventure will feature over 50 puzzle levels and six party games as well as five Monkey Ball Kingdoms to explore. The six party games will include three returning clasics and three that are all new. Brand new balls will allow monkeys to stick to walls, float across crevices, box Monkey Fight-style, or turn invisible!

All four original Monkey Ball characters - AiAi, Meemee, Gongon, and Baby will be returning and playable. The four will be joined by a full cast of other characters, including a Prince and Princess being kept apart by a feud between their kingdoms. The couple run away to Jungle Island where they enlist the help of the Super Monkey Ball gang to unite the feuding Monkey Kingdoms and defeat the Naysayers who have sucked all the joy from the Monkey Ball world and unite the feuding Monkey Kingdoms.

Intriguingly, the game is listed as having a third quarter release in the States, whereas Nintendo has confirmed a June 3rd release in Europe. Thought unfortunately, the Cube (and PS2) versions will not have the PSP's exclusive features - Wi-Fi multiplayer functions and a trading card game. We wouldn't be suprised to hear of a DS version of the title with these features in, however.

"Super Monkey Ball Adventure takes the franchise in a new creative direction with a Story Mode and new monkey ball abilities," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "Now Monkey Ball fans can enjoy the mini games that made the franchise famous as well as adventure through a fresh new world that can only exist in the Monkey Ball universe."

The screens aren't of the highest quality, but from them you can see AiAi outside a temple in the jungle, him interacting with two other monkeys, a first glimpse of one of the alternative balls - this one being a wooden one allowing him to float on water. The final two show him flying through the landscape, Monkey Target-style, and on a platform next to what looks like some lettering saying "Moonhaven". Hmm.
