News: Monster Hunter 3G Passes 1m Sold

The latest in Capcom's smash franchise becomes the first third-party 3DS title to pass a million in Japan...

The latest Japanese charts are in from Media Create, and this week brings confirmation that Capcom's faith in 3DS looks to have paid off.

It may have took a little longer than Nintendo's own big guns, but Monster Hunter Tri G officially sold over a million copies as of the first week of January - shortly after the game shipped the milestone figure. It looks well on route to sail by Capcom's expectation of 1.2 million shipped by the end of March.

There wasn't much else of note in chart, as the New Year period gave everything the traditional bump. Perhaps it's interesting to note the strong legs of Inazuma Eleven Go on 3DS, which will surely be welcome news for Level-5, who've had a particularly poor run of commercial form lately.

The software chart for the week of January 2nd to 8th is below.

Hardware yielded little seismic shift. 3DS continues to rule the roost going into the year - perhaps the real story will be whether particularly 'core' third party games like Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid and Dynasty Warriors can produce their own momentum this quarter. Vita edges closer to the 500,000 mark, at a slower rate than 3DS. It took Nintendo's system two weeks to pass the figure last spring.
