News: Moore Comments On Controller Complexity

The sometimes complimentary Microsoft exec Peter Moore has commented on the simplicity of the Wii-mote, and hints Microsoft may have something up their sleeve...
In an interview with Gamertag Radio, Moore called the Wii a "party console" saying it could be difficult to keep gamers attention after an initial thirty minutes, though he also agreed games controllers have become too complicated, citing how the Wii-mote works with Sonic Rush - saying the game "was almost built for the controller because it was so intuitive."
"...Shoulder buttons, triggers, analog sticks, d-pads, I mean, there's a lot going on there when you compare it to the old Atari 2600 button-and-stick, which everybody could pick up and have some fun with... Clearly, I think the Wii is trying to get back to those days."
Moore commented that his 14-year-old daughter finds the Xbox 360 controller complicated: "... she's frustrated because of the button configurations and the use of triggers; she just doesn't quite get it." And with that in mind, Microsoft is "doing a lot of stuff there... Nothing that we're ready to talk about, and we're not going to force anything that is not going to be intuitive and innovative."
Could Microsoft be designing a simpler Xbox 360 controller to try and steal some of the Wii-motes attraction? We'll keep you updated.
