News: More Revo Specification Speculation

IGN have been digging again, and have come up with more anonymous developer's comments on the Revolution's power...

Yesterday, we reported IGN had uncovered that Revolution would include 128MBs of RAM, or possibly less. Today, the latest news is that the upcoming console will build on GameCube's configuration of 24MBs 1T-SRAM and 16MBs D-RAM (40MBs) by adding an addition 64MBs of 1T-SRAM, resulting in a supply of memory totalling 104MBs (not including the 512MB Flash RAM or the Hollywood GPU's on-board memory, said to be 3MB).

The console's exact clock rates weren't disclosed, though one source said "Basically, take a GameCube, double the clock rate of the CPU and GPU and you're done," though another studio said that the clock rates may actually fall short of that. "Our guys experimented with it and think they'll be able to get about twice the performance as GameCube."

As for the Revolution discs, a single-layered disc can store 4.7GBs of data, while 8.5GBs can be fitted on the disc is double-layered on a single-side - a considerable leapfrom the 1.5GB Cube disc capacity.

Finally on pricing, the developers spoken to seemed to be in agreement. A price tag of $149 (around 90) or lower would be appropriate, with some speculating as low as a price point as $99. More as it breaks, though remember to take everything with a pinch of salt until you hear it officially from Nintendo.
