News: More Than 50 Songs in Theatrhythm FF

Prepare for more than 50 Final Fantasy songs in surround sound.

The recently announced Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for the 3DS is set to feature numerous characters, locations and songs from the popular series. The title is set to feature over 50 songs, with three titles from every game from Final Fantasy I through to Final Fantasy XIII and many more.

The game begun life on the DS but due to cartridge size issues they decided to move the project to the 3DS. In addition to greater space the new handheld can provide much better sound quality so gamers can enjoy the classic songs in higher fidelity.

Some new details about gameplay in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy were also released in Dengeki PlayStation, which apparently covers non-Sony news for big games, and Andriasang has all the details.

The title will have three gameplay modes: Music Game, SpotPass and Museum. The magazine only gives details about the first mode although it is encouraging to see SpotPass is mentioned. The Music Game mode contains three submodes; Series, Challenge and another that has yet to be detailed. These options are listed alongside your party, although what exactly they do is unclear at present.

While you're playing the game you will face three different coloured icons: red, yellow and green. The red icons will need to be tapped briefly, the green icon will need to be touched and held down while the yellow icon requires you to slide in the direction of the arrow or line of movement.

The numerous gameplay modes previously announced, field, battle and event, will offer different music and difficulty levels. The field mode will feature field, town and dungeon music and have just one rhythm line, meaning the difficulty is lower. In contrast the battle mode features four rhythm lines, a higher tempo and greater difficulty.

Square Enix plan to release Theatrhythm Final Fantasy during the winter in Japan. There is no word yet about any Western localisation plans but we'll keep you updated.
