News: Mortal Kombat Coming to NGC After All!

It turns out that Mortal Kombat: Deception is coming to the GameCube after all.

IGN has broken the news that Mortal Kombat: Deception will be coming out in the first half of next year on the GameCube after all! While the GameCube version will be a basic port of the PS2 and Xbox version Midway have promised to include two new GameCube-exclusive features.

IGN chatted with Midway marketing exec Steve Allison about the announcement, and the sudden change in attitude towards the GameCube. In the interview he said that Midway has been working on the GameCube version for many months. Development for the Nintendo console was not initiated at first because the developer wanted to focus on the online part of the game.

"Midway has a lot of GameCube fans and Mortal Kombat sales are 300,000 plus on GameCube worldwide. Again the decision to hold or delay Deception from the GameCube platform was really driven from a need to turn the team's focus towards getting online gameplay solved on the PlayStation 2 and Xboxin the end, the team's theory of getting Deception working flawlessly online for both proved absolutely true", said Steve Allison.

Mortal Kombat's gore will hit the GameCube once again. Now the rumours on the Cube-Europe forums, and many others, turned out to be true, we can finally all get some sleep again.

Update

According to Games Asylum Midway have confirmed the title will not be coming out in Europe on GameCube.
