News: Most Expensive DS' in the World

Media industries' contribution to charity continues, with Nintendo using the DS to do more than revolutionise gaming.

At the recent Sundance Film Festival, Nintendo auctioned off three DS systems for charitable causes. Various attending celebrties were eventually outbidded by comedy host Jay Mohr, actress Poppy Montgomery and Nightcrawler himself, Alan Cumming. $23,000 was raised overall, going to Children's Hospital and Tsunami Relief.

"Nintendo DS is already a hot system, but the one-of-a-kind DS units really created a bidding frenzy among the celebrities," says Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing & corporate affairs. "And best of all, along with Nintendo's contributions, two very worthy charities will benefit from their generosity."
