News: Motion Sensing Comes To Mobile Phones

Accelerometers galore, as the technology now makes its way to handheld devices.

The Nintendo Wii promises to change the way that we play videogames. Rather than relying on the motion of pushing a button or moving a stick, the sensors within the Wiimote allows gamers to perform actions by slicing, dicing, and also serves up quite well as a tennis racqet..

Now, the technology used within the Wiimote is making its way onto mobile phones. The sensors make for an all-round different experience. For example, when browsing the internet, the device acts as a "motion-sensing mouse" that lets you browse by tilting the device left, right, etc.

There is also a health and fitness aspect to this device, as the sensors can also measure how many steps you take when you walk, your speed and how many calories you burn off.

Further details are not available, such as the range of products in which this technology will feature within, but as soon as we know more, including how the sensors are used, we'll keep you in the know.
