News: MPs Play Video Games

MPs got a chance to play video games yesterday, find out how it went.

Yesterday saw some of the UK's MPs come together to try out different forms of entertainment. ELSPA held the event at Portcullis House yesterday to try and change the public perception of video games.

The MP for Mid-Worcestershire Peter Luff supported the event and helped bring together MPs from all over the UK. They spent the day being educated about the video games industry, which generated more than 2 billion in 2002.

Roger Bennett, director general of ELSPA, said: "We're often misunderstood by MPs, Lords and Government officials who do not often have personal interaction with games. This is why ELSPA has taken the initiative to go direct to Parliament in order to explain in detail the economic and cultural significance of great industry and to correct some of the misconceptions that exist among non-games players."

Bennett continued, "We are heartened by the extremely positive response we received from the MPs, the vast majority of whom had never played a video game before."
