Steel Horizons

News: Naval Battles On DS

Battleships on your DS? It's a little more complex that that: new strategy game from Konami.

Announced today is Steel Horizons, a naval tactics game that mixes real-time and turn-based strategy. The game has you take the role of an American sea captain, commanding battleships, destroyers, submarines etc., seeing off a shady organisation that's planning to take over the world and all that jazz. The game is inspired by certain battles and characters from WW2 naval action, although obviously it's all set within a fictional scenario. As well as the singleplayer mode, a wireless multiplayer is promised.

"Strategy games are a perfect fit for portable gaming on the PSP system and Nintendo DS," said Hans-Joachim Amann, Head of European Product Management of Konami of Europe. "With Steel Horizons' intuitive interface, intense 3D graphics, dynamic camera angles, impressive special effects and a mix of real-time and turn-based strategy elements, gamers will enjoy 20 compelling missions and countless hours of strategic action on the high seas."

The game will be launched for the DS and PSP in the fiscal year 06/07 according to the press release, so a release around this Winter wouldn't be surprising.
