Looks like EA are set to resurrect cult arcade basketball gem NBA Jam... exclusively for Wii!
Anybody who loved their video games around the SNES/MegaDrive era will no doubt be familiar with NBA Jam. The hugely popular arcade game - originally developed by Midway - won over massive acclaim by giving players what was arguably the first sports game to be packed to the brim with unrealistically action-packed fun.
Now, it looks like EA have snapped up the rights to bring back NBA Jam, and according to ESPN, the publisher is releasing a new retail entry exclusively on Wii.
Sources say that the new game will be a faithful update to the original, to the point that EA has drafted in its creator Mark Turmell, as well as other vets from NBA Jam to work with EA Vancouver to develop the Wii game.
EA are expected to make an official announcement on January 11th. Here's hoping the update is as bonkers as the original.
Update: EA has issued a statement confirming the development of an NBA Jam revival on Wii.
The game is indeed being handled by EA Canada, who promise "true-to-the-original" gameplay, and "sights and sounds" retained from the franchise. Hopefully that means some serious boomshakalaka for Wii owners.
