Need For Speed: Nitro

News: Need For Speed Series Rebooted

New Need For Speed titles are confirmed exclusive for Wii and DS, as EA announces a revamp to the series.

The future of the NFS series is looking busy, as a multitude of titles from the franchise have just been confirmed by developer Electronic Arts. This Autumn PC, 360, PS3 and PSP gamers can look forward to Need for Speed: Shift, while the Wii and DS will get its own title Need for Speed: Nitro. Additionally the MMOG Need for Speed: World Online will be launching for PCs.

Developed by EA Montreal, the new Wii and DS games will provide "fast and fun arcade racing", with "vibrant and eye-catching visuals." But the games will not be Mario Kart. Far from it, says EA:

"Instead, we are evolving the arcade racer with a fresh and unique visual style that is very Need for Speed. The game will be rich and deep and will appeal to experienced arcade racers as well as casual players. What you'll see is that Nitro in no way resembles any other previous Need for Speed title."

Further details (including that of multiplayer) are being kept under wraps for now. We'll have more nearer to the Autumn release!
