News: New 3DS Virtual Console Titbits

Time-frame, '3D Classics' and a couple of new platforms get confirmed...

Iwata-san spent quite a bit of time during his GDC keynote chatting about the recently-launched (in Japan, anyway) 3DS system; and especially its e-Shop.

The 3DS' e-Shop and Virtual Console services - the latter offering downloads of old handheld titles - will come into effect following a worldwide firmware update poised for "late May". This update will also give users access to the 3DS web browser and the ability to transfer their DSiWare software to their 3DS systems.

Previously, it had only been confirmed that Game Boy and Game Boy Colour titles would be available to download, but Iwata stated that Sega's Game Gear and Hudson Soft's TurboGrafx-16 are also on-board.

Finally, while most regular 3DS Virtual Console games will only be viewable in standard 2D, Iwata re-iterated that selected classics would be remastered to take use of the system's unique 3D capabilities.
