News: New Card Fighters Clash On The Way For DS

SNK has announced a DS revival of their NGPC classic Card Fighter's Clash.

At this year's TGS SNK made it known that they intend to bring back their little known fan-favorite card-battling game, SNK Vs. Capcom: Card Fighter's Clash, to the dual screens of the DS. If you are wondering what this title is all about, its no wonder. Not many gamers will remember that, Once Upon A Time, SNK had its own competing portable on the market. The Neo Geo Pocket Color came and went basically before the Gameboy of that era even had time to glance at it in any semblance of acknowledgement. After all, that was the fate of pretty much every handheld contender up to that point. The NGPC however, in its short life, was home to a decent number of quality portable titles. Among those most fondly remembered is a little game called Card Fighter's Clash.

For gamers familiar with this game, they are likely already a good deal excited about SNK's announcement. For everyone else, this ClassicGaming.com link describes the game well. Basically, it is a CCG pitting the beloved characters from the fighting games of both SNK and Capcom against each other. Underneath that layer of fanboyist draw however, was a very fun and very deep game. No doubt the DS is the right home for the series to stage its revival. As titles such as Konami's Yugioh Nightmare Troubadour for the DS have proven, card games fit the platform like a glove (what with its dual screens and touch screen.)

SNK Vs. Capcom: Card Fighter's Clash for the DS is intended for a release early next year in Japan. Localization for other regions has not yet been confirmed, but if fans of the game are to be believed, we should keep our fingers crossed for that announcement. As it will launch some months after the debut of Nintendo's WiFi Connection online gaming service, the possiblity is even open for some worldwide dueling action. That new feature, perhaps more than any other, ought to have fans drooling. More on the game as it is revealed.
