A new issue of Nintendo Power reveals details about the upcoming Wii game Kirby's Return to Dreamland.
The Nintendo Wii is set to get another multiplayer platform title this Winter in the shape of Kirby's Return to Dreamland. The title, announced earlier in the year, will see Kirby team up with King Dedede, Meta Knight and a Waddle Dee and now a new issue of Nintendo Power (courtesy of Kirby's Rainbow Resort) contains new information on the title.
The story at the heart of Kirby's Return to Dreamland sees the alien Magolor crash land his ship 'Lor Starcutter' on the Pop Star planet with pieces scattered through Dream Land. Kirby agrees to help Magolor find the pieces and so he and his companions traverse across a variety of worlds in the search of the missing pieces.
In true Kirby fashion you will visit a number of worlds based on themes such as forests, beaches and caves and travel across lands, under the sea and in the air.
The Kirby series is famed for its titular character's ability to copy enemies' abilities and Kirby's Return to Dreamland will be no different. New copy abilities include surrounding Kirby with leaves and also being able to whip enemies. Elemental moves will also be part of the gameplay as Kirby can set himself on fire or use water to surf on, raise Kirby up or attack enemies with. Super abilities can also be utilised to really cause some damage, for example Monster Flame will summon a giant fire monster while Flare Beam creates a ball of energy and Ultra Sword uses a giant sword to clear paths.
Kirby is not the only one with some abilities however. Kirby's nemesis King Dedede can use his hammer to attack enemies, although he is slower than his comrades, Meta Knight can fly with characters on his back and Waddle Dee can fly and attack from a greater distance. Players can jump on each other's backs and stack up and even attack as a team by holding and releasing 'A' at the same time, with the player at the bottom determining which attacking is used. The Kirby franchise is a charming and sweet one and in keeping with this Nintendo has implemented the ability to share health between players by hugging each other. However, if the other characters sound much weaker you can play as different coloured Kirbys and drop in-and-out at your leisure.
Magolor's ship is also home to the seven different Copy Ability Challenge Rooms that are unlocked by collecting a certain amount of energy spheres in the main game. Players who have a penchant for challenging themselves can try and get gold medals in each Copy Ability Challenge Room, which are rewarded to players who are fast, kill all enemies, get all coins and don't take any damage. To make things more difficult each room has different collision, grab and pushback properties that are all necessary to satisfy in order to get the gold medal. Nintendo also promises more modes but are leaving those as a surprise for the final game.
