A couple of pieces of information about the Wii's Mii channel...

Speaking to Reuters, Nintendo of America's George Harrison has talked about the Mii Channel, one of the many sections of firmware on the Wii. Your 'Mii' will act like an avatar in games - indeed, in Wii Sports and Wario Ware: Smooth Moves you play as your Mii character.

Your Miis reside in the "Mii Plaza", which can hold up to 100 waiting Miis for you to select. 10 Miis can be stored on a Wii-mote for transportation to another gamer's console - allowing you to take your character wherever you go.

A lot more is expected of this interesting new feature, with Harrison expecting more Mii-enabled games next year, including some third-party titles. "It's true potential isn't even known yet," he concluded.
