News: New Name Wii Is Global & Staying

There's no going back, as Nintendo confirm the Wii will be the final name for the console - and there'll be no 'Punk'd' style suprises at E3...
Nintendo UK spokesman Rob Saunders has confirmed that the controversial new name for the Revolution is here to stay. "Yes 'Wii' pronounced as in the English 'we' is the final global name for Nintendo's next home console formally known as Revolution," he has said, making the point that Nintendo had "always stated that "Revolution" was simply a code name."
Some fans had speculated that the name would only apply in certain parts of the world, or even that Nintendo was planning to reveal the new name was merely a joke at E3, before announcing the "real" official name.
Interviewed by Cubed3.com (the full interview can be found below, though nothing else new was revealed), it was even put to him that Nintendo has changed system names at the last minute before - for example the Ultra 64 becoming the N64, however this too was dismissed. And to be honest, it might cause Nintendo to lose even more face by admitting defeat on the name.
So for those yet unswayed by the new title - admit to yourselves, it's final. Probably.
