Pokémon Black & White enjoys Japan's largest ever opening...

Who says the Japanese industry is dead? Preliminary figures for Pokémon Black & White show that combined sales for the titles surpassed 2.6 million in its opening week - managing the feat in just two days. Not only does it make for the biggest ever opening in Japan, but it managed the sum in half the time of the previous record-holder, Final Fantasy VIII.

Pokémon Black & White marks the fifth official generation of Pokémon titles, and the second to be released in DS. The games were the first in the franchise to be awarded a perfect 40/40 score in Famitsu.

Pokémon Black & White is due for release in western territories in the spring of next year.
