News: New Viewtiful Joe Titles

Capcom are jumping on the bandwagon and getting their characters to fight each other in Viewtiful Joe: VFX Battle and also requesting DS players to Scratch! Viewtiful Joe.

The Viewtiful Joe series is to expand again, with Capcom announcing that they plan on bringing out Viewtiful Joe: VFX Battle on the GameCube. The title will see characters from both the Viewtiful Joe games and anime battle it out. Rather uniquely the game will require you to be as a big a show-off as you can, as points are rewarded for how much the camera focuses upon you.

Scratch! Viewtiful Joe is planned for the DS as well. The plotline for the game is pretty basic, you are at an amusement park where the newest Captain Blue movie is shooting. After bad guys come along and steal the film Joe has to go after them to recover it. The game will also introduce Joe's younger sister Jasmine.

The control scheme is focused around the D-pad and buttons and while the touch screen will be used it will not be put through much. However when you do use the touch screen Capcom wish you do so with your fingers, so as not to have to be constantly changing between stylus and using your hands for the buttons.

An example of how the touch screen is being utilised in the new game is with the VFX power "Split". Players will need to use their fingers to slice an object in half, so cutting a billboard in half allows players to squash a lot of baddies at once. The top screen of the DS will be used to zoom in on the action. For now you can look at a scan from the recent issue of Famitsu, where this was first reported.
