Bloomberg Japan today have reported on Nintendo's reaction to the unpredictable new Sony PSP price point of $185.
Yasuhiro Minagawa's, head of PR for Nintendo Co., Ltd. response to the price announcement was "That's not a game machine, they showed it at the [Tokyo] Game Show without any fundamental game software, and you can tell that it's not yet complete." Bloomberg then went over to find out SCE's Ken Kutaragi's reaction to Nintendo's reaction. "People who want to play with Pikachu will need Nintendo's new-style DS machine," he responded, "but those who want to play our racing game Gran Turismo 4 will need a PSP, right?"
Bloomberg news service were also told by JP Morgan Securities analyst Masaru Onishi, "By announcing an unexpectedly low price for the PSP, Sony has raised the chances that it will fully expand into the market. Many game publishers are now saying, 'At that price, we'd seriously like to make games for the PSP.'"
Sony are looking more like a serious competitor to Nintendo's Dual Screen with an attractive new price point lower than analysts predicted, so Nintendo aren't going to have an easy ride.
