News: Nintendo Announce Captain Rainbow!

Nintendo unleash a new Wii title, read on for information and a trailer!

Surprise! Nintendo have given us an earlier appetiser before the stomach-filling banquet that is E3 2008 in the form of a new, unique, and very 'super' IP.

Developed by Skip, (creators of the Chibi-Robo series and the multiplayer-only Bakushow for the DS) little is known about Captain Rainbow apart from the information seen in the following video. Featuring what looks to be a more realistic and hyperactive Birdo providing the commentary, the game takes on a comic book style starring a man who has the ability to morph into the titular superhero, Captain Rainbow, and POW! THWACK! and KABLAM! your way through a wacky cel-shaded world.

The title is slated for a 2008 release in Japan, and more information will surely come at E3, but for now let us know what you think! (And is that really Birdo?!)

Update!

More information has emerged from a scan, revealing that the main character is called Nick and his alter ego, Captain Rainbow, is a reference to the TV series Masked Rider. There will be minigames such as golf, bug catching and fishing scattered through the game, but the main genre remains a mystery.

And yup, that's Birdo. The game's central island is reportedly chock full of past minor Nintendo characters such as Birdo (who we can see in the video), OtsuSan and Hikari. Feel free to contact us and explain who the latter two are.
