News: Nintendo Announce Yearly Sales To Date

Find out just how well the Wii and DS have been selling worldwide...

The release of the Wii and continued healthy sales of the Nintendo DS have pushed Nintendo's sales up during the first three quarters of the financial year by 72%, with net income up 43% and operating income up 102.5%. Nintendo now have a total kitty of $7.1 billion in cash, (down from $10.86 billion a year ago though only due to the very weak Dollar at the moment).

In terms of Wii consoles, Nintendo will have shipped 6 million by the end of March, 4 million of which were manufactured last year - when 3.19 million units were delivered to distributors and sold, with the 810,000 arriving at stores now. Of these, 1.4 million have connected to the Internet, with 1.5 million Virtual Console games downloaded.

Meanwhile, Nintendo have sold 35 million DS and DS Lite to date, with 18.88 million of those sold this fiscal year and another 4.12 million expected to sell by the end of March. Next fiscal year, Nintendo are expecting a further 23 million DS Lites to sell, making a worldwide total of 58 million DS units by March 31, 2008.

Platformer New Super Mario Bros. has sold 8.64 million copies worldwide, while more than 3.5 million unique users have connected their DS consoles to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, with more than 100 million connections now clocked up.
