Nintendo announce a press conference on October 2nd to announce "new products". Megaton?

Nintendo have announced plans for an Autumn press conference, set to take place this October 2nd - just one week prior to the Tokyo Games Show, which Nintendo will once again not be attending.

The purpose of the conference? To announce "new products" to the gaming world - and presumably to give said announcements time to breathe before the bombardment of TGS news begins.

Are Nintendo planning to make up for their perceived causal gamer centric E3 conference with some core gamer announcements? The company certainly seems to have realised it may have misstepped - now could be a great opportunity to heal the rift with its fanbase.
