Nintendo confirm the theft of a shipment of DS Lites headed for Europe, though says they were the white colour, not the black.
As Revo-Europe reported last week, Nintendo have suffered the loss of a shipment for DS Lites, stolen somewhere in Hong Kong while en route to Europe. Since then, some fans have been celebrating their choice of white over the black colour - rumoured to have been contained in the stolen shipment. In a cruel twist of fate however, Nintendo has confirmed that it was actually white Lites in the shipment, and that they were headed specifically for the UK.
Nintendo declined to comment on how many were stolen, or to what value they reached, merely commenting to GamesIndustry.biz: "A number of White DS Lite made for the UK market were stolen in Hong Kong. Nintendo is making every effort to ensure that there is enough product available in the UK to meet market demand at launch."
With just a few days to go until the system's European launch, Revo-Europe can confirm that many retailers have recieved their quota of white (and black) Lites ready for sale this Friday priced 99.99 / 149.99. It remains to be seen whether this theft will affect availability and sales.
Revo-Europe will be following the DS Lite's launch this Friday in Europe closely - stay tuned!
