News: Nintendo Confirm Wii Price Cut

Japan, North America and Europe get imminent Wii price cuts - with Europe seeing a special new Wii bundle too. Full details inside...

After weeks of rumours and subsequent denials from Nintendo, the company confirmed today at the Tokyo Games Show that the trade price for the Wii is being cut worldwide.

North American gamers will see a $50 drop to $199.99, Japanese retailers see a similar cut to 20,000 yen, while the European trade price will be the initial launch price of 179/250 (after Nintendo UK briefly raised it this year to 199).

Think European gamers are getting a raw deal? Well, Nintendo of Europe are sweetening the deal considerably - the new European Wii bundle will not only include the Wii plus Wii Sports, but Wii Sports Resort and its MotionPlus attachment as well.

All price cuts are to go into affect imminently - the U.S. from this Sunday, 27th September and Europe from next Friday, October 2nd.
