News: Nintendo Considering Auto-Downloading Demos

Nintendo is contemplating demos that automatically download to your console.

During his meeting with investors last week Satoru Iwata gave insights into a number of ideas the company has about how to improve the services they offer to fans. Mr. Iwata raised the topic of the eShop, which had launched since the last investors meeting, and suggested that they may implement an auto-download function.

It would seem that according to Satoru Iwata's plans users would opt-in to the service and the content is delivered to their 3DS, and perhaps Wii U in the future, and then from there they can decide whether or not to purchase the game. His words in full were as follows:

When Nintendo would like to ask users to try a specific new game, we should deliver it to their Nintendo 3DS, and possibly Wii U, with their prior consent and recommend that they just try it and, if they like it, they can pay for it. In this way, we need to introduce users to unknown products. Consumers are likely to be convinced to pay about 5,000 yen for a well-established franchise product, but not all the people are willing to pay a certain amount of money for an innovative but unknown product. Now is the time to prepare for these situations. We would like to respond to some of the concerns surrounding our business in this manner.

It is an interesting idea and could help to ensure more gamers try out demos. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
