News: Nintendo Cuts Sales Forecast Once Again

Company now expects full-year loss of 65 billion yen...

Nintendo has released its Q3 sales report for the last nine months of 2011, and chose to lower its profit and sales forecast once again.

It lowered its total sales forecast for the full-year ending March 31st 2012 to 660 billion yen (down from 790 billion in October). It also now expects an operating loss, for the first time this year, of 45 billion yen. Total net loss for the year has also been revised to 65 billion yen, from 20 billion.


Nintendo also slashed full-year sales expectations for its systems:

- 3DS hardware forecast is 14 million units, down from 16 million in October. Software forecast is 38 million, down from 50 million.

- Wii hardware forecast is 10 million units, down from 12 million. Software forecast is 100 million, unchanged from October.

- DS hardware forecast is 5.5 million units, down from 6 million. Software forecast 59 million, down from 62 million.

The new sales forecast is not the first time Nintendo has slashed its full-year expectations this year.

Life-to-date (as of December 31st 2011) sales for Nintendo's systems is as follows:

    DS: Hardware - 151.06 million; Software - 890.69 million
    Wii: Hardware - 94.97 million; Software - 805.15 million
    3DS: Hardware - 15.03 million; Software - 37.46 million
