Nintendo are expecting the release of the 3DS next year to be another "landmark release".
Following the success of the DS and Wii Nintendo are anticipating the release of the 3DS in 2011 to be just as successful. While release details are still not known Nintendo is keen to build up hype for the handheld that provides glasses-free 3D technology.
MCV spoke to Dawn Paine, Nintendo UK's marketing manager, about the upcoming release and she commented on how Nintendo are preparing for the launch. When the DS was released six years ago the market was a much different place and while the 3D technology offered by the 3DS is fairly unique they do face much more competition from smartphones capable of gaming.
"The difference is that there are other brands operating in that space and we're really excited about the positioning of the product and what it can achieve. It's the world's first mass-market, portable, 3D device, without glasses. Buried within that one sentence are some huge factors that will bring about big changes. It's a great opportunity to explode 3D onto the wider marketplace."
Ms. Paine also noted that Nintendo already have big plans for the launch and hope to "do things differently" to really help push the handheld when it is released.
