There are 50 million Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL in America according to new data.
According to new figures collected by NPD Nintendo's record-breaking DS system has crossed the 50 million units sold mark in North America alone.
During September more than 260,000 3DS units were sold in America, an increase of more than 10% on the August. Since the Nintendo 3DS was reduced in price in August the console has sold 450,000 units in North America, while The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is the first Nintendo 3DS title to have sold more than 500,000 units in America.
In September more than 647,000 total hardware units were sold, which included 240,000 Wii units and 145,000 DS units. Nintendo has done the maths and calculated that on average more than 107,000 DS games have been sold every day for almost seven years, which is certainly an impressive figure. They have also proudly boasted that 24 of the top 25 and 43 of the top 50 games sold on handheld consoles have been on a Nintendo console.
