News: Nintendo DS Touch Screen?

The recently announced Nintendo Dual Screen Portable may have a touch-screen interface!

As it stands, the DS Portable is something of a mystery: Not a great deal of known third-party support, possible backwards compatibility, wireless gaming. The whole issue is a veritable minefield of speculation and rumour. But we would be remiss if we didn't at least inform our readership of all the possibilities and potential features.

And here's the latest one: One of the two screens on the DS portable may have a touch-screen interface as standard. A Nintendo spokesperson had this to say:

"I cannot confirm nor deny any information relating to the possibility of touch-screen usage for the NDS"

Well, that's neither a yes or a no. So it's equally possible and unlikely that it may be true. What sort of function could a touch screen interface have, could it purely be menu navigation? Or are Nintendo maybe launching this as a more accessible palm-pilot competitor as they don't see this as a rival to Sonys' PSP? Only time will tell whether or not these rumours are true.
