Nintendo of America employees have teamed up to compete, and the winner was the Northwest Harvest hunger-relief agency. During this year's holiday food drive, Nintendo workers collected 18,655 pounds of food, which Northwest Harvest will use to help supply more than 300 food banks and meal programs across Washington state. Workers also collected $4,845 in cash donations, which Nintendo will match, for a total donation of $9,690 to Northwest Harvest.

Nintendo employees divided into groups and gave themselves team names. In a spirit of giving and friendly competition, the teams pushed one another to reach higher and higher donation goals. The result was an average of more than 23 pounds of food collected by each of Nintendo's more than 800 employees.

"We actually doubled our donation goal this year, and more than doubled what we collected last year," said Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing & corporate affairs. "With multiple natural disasters taxing food banks' resources nationwide and bringing their reserves to an all-time low, we're just happy that we can be a part of making someone's holidays a little brighter."

On Tuesday, Nov. 22, Mario and Nintendo employees will greet representatives from Northwest Harvest when they visit to collect the donated food and money. For more information about Northwest Harvest, visit www.northwestharvest.org.
