News: Nintendo Fail To Supply Promised Wii Units?

Virgin Megastore claim that Nintendo failed in their promise to deliver a certain number of Wii units for the December 8th launch.

Nintendo have denied claims that they failed upon their promise to provide enough Wii allocations for Virgin Megastore, prior to the December 8th launch in Europe.

According to a Virgin representative: "It's because there was an issue with the Wii. Some stores didn't get the allocation they were promised until the next day after launch."

There have been reports from other representatives that the promised number of units didn't turn up until several weeks after the launch, or just didn't turn up at all.

Nintendo have hit back at these claims, by telling GamesIndustry.biz that: "All UK retailers were notified of their initial day one Wii allocations in October 2006, some six to eight weeks before launch. Nintendo delivered exactly what we said we would to retailers for day one and in many instances over delivered against the initial numbers retailers were expecting."

In addition, the spokesperson said, "Nintendo made multiple and regular deliveries to retailers across the UK in the days following launch to try and meet the huge demand for Wii as much as possible."

Virgin have yet to respond to the Nintendo's claims. Is this just a case of demand being far higher than supply, or have Nintendo really failed to deliver on their promise? Discuss about it below.
